Belarusian foreign Ministry on EU sanctions

Exterior policy

By the decision taken today, the European Union has alienated its neighbor, Belarus.
“In recent years, the Belarusian side has been actively and persistently working to strengthen relations between Belarus and the EU that are beneficial for people and security in our common region. The positive results were felt for both sides. This is a fact. It is also a fact that the European Union did not have a quarter of a century to put into effect the partnership and cooperation Agreement with Belarus, but a few weeks were enough to impose sanctions. Probably, they would have coped faster if it were not for the Holy holiday season for Europeans,” the press service of the foreign Ministry noted.
“In fact, everything is simple: the EU again does not want to offer its partner anything other than sanctions. So this “reward” is waiting for everyone who sincerely works to improve bilateral relations, but does not stand in line, begging for a club card?” – the question is put in the application.
“Belarus is always against confrontation in words and deeds. We are for dialogue and understanding. But as a sovereign state, we will also respond resolutely, though not without regret, to unfriendly actions in order to naturally protect our national interests.”
In connection with the visa sanctions adopted by the EU against a number of Belarusian officials, the Belarusian side is putting into effect a retaliatory sanctions list from today.
